25-Feb-2006, at the Outdoor Adventure Show , I got the opportunity to meet Les Stroud, the star of one of my favorite shows Survivorman.
On the show, Les simulates various scenarios (Snowmobile breakdown, canoe tipping over in the middle of a lake, etc) that people might find themselves in. He spends a week in the wild, demonstrating survival techniques with little to no equipment, food or water. He is alone. There is no camera
crew. He films everything himself.
I find the show very inspiring. It gives me the itch to get out there. This summer I am going to try some of the fire starting techniques. As many of my friends know, I carry a magnesium fire starting block and jackknife with me everywhere I go, and I have used them to start campfires. But I have not done any of the "rubbing two sticks together" variety of fire starting techniques.
